WINDAGE: ARENA
A first-person archery duel with Quake legs. Strafe-jump the length of a 120-metre hall, slide into cover, and put an arrow through a rising balloon — or through the other archer.

What this is
An early prototype, shared to find out whether the shooting and the movement feel right. Two people at a time, real arrow physics, no aim assist, nothing randomised. Everything below is tunable and probably will be — that is what your feedback is for.
Balloon Hunt
One balloon at a time drifts up from the floor of the gallery and escapes at the roof. Both archers see it. Both can see each other.
- Distance pays. A pop is worth 20 points × (range / 10 m)², capped at 750. A 100-metre shot is the whole match.
- Streaks stack. Consecutive pops multiply ×1.25, ×1.5, ×2. A miss or a death resets the run — you'll hear it drop.
- The other archer is a target too. A kill pays 300 plus a fifth of their score; they're back in 3 seconds.
- First to 1000, or the most after five minutes. Tied at the clock? Overtime — next lead wins.
The bow
- Hold to draw, release to shoot. A snap-shot leaves at a fraction of the speed; a full draw takes about a second and hits like one. Only a full draw one-shots the head.
- Arrows are simulated — drag, drop, and they carry your own velocity when you loose on the move. Lead your target, aim over the far ones.
- Hold at full draw for three seconds and the tremor sets in; four more and the bow lets go on its own.
- Fletching is your colour, so you always know whose arrow just went past your ear.
The legs
Movement is Quake III's, on purpose: air acceleration, strafe jumps that chain past the sprint, circle jumps off a mouse sweep. Sprint and press C to slide — you keep your speed, you can steer, and you can shoot the whole way down. A jump out of a slide carries the speed on. Nothing brakes you but the floor.
Modes
| PLAY ONLINE | 1v1 against a real person on the public server. The menu picks the arena where someone is already waiting; the numbered buttons join a specific one to meet a friend. |
| YOU VS BOT | The same match against a bot that solves the same ballistics you do and misses by a dice roll — no aimbot, no hidden help. |
| PRACTICE | The hall to yourself. Learn the drop, learn the strafe jump, then press E to freeze time and fly a camera around your own shot. |
Controls
| WASD · Mouse | Move · Look |
| LMB hold / release | Draw / shoot |
| Shift | Sprint (toggle) |
| Space | Jump (hold it — it fires on touchdown) |
| C | Slide (while sprinting) · ends a slide |
| E | Director camera (offline): freeze, fly, screenshot with F12 |
| Tab · Esc | Free the cursor · Leave the match |
What I'd love to hear
- Does the draw feel right — the snap-shot, the full draw, the tremor?
- Is the arrow honest? When you missed, did you know why?
- Did the slide and the strafe jump click, and how long did it take?
- Online: did the other archer look like they were where you hit them?
- Anything that stuttered, froze, or fell through the floor.
Comments below are perfect.
Before you run it
- Windows 10/11, 64-bit. Unzip anywhere and run
WindageArena.exe. No installer. - The build is unsigned, so SmartScreen will object: More info → Run anyway.
- Opens 1920×1080 windowed; resolution, fullscreen, v-sync, sensitivity and the arrow cam are in SETTINGS.
- Online play is two arenas of two on one server — if both are full, the bot is waiting.
- Keep the build current: an old client cannot join a newer server ("Config mismatch").
